Attachement Parenting

The Cincinnati Enquirer, my local paper, ran an article today on Attachment Parenting. I am not that familiar with the parenting style so I was interested to learn more.

After reading about it I am not sure how I feel or what I think. It seems to me that at first glance it is a style that fits with an OCD type personality.

If you are not familiar Attachment Parenting, its based on the work of British psychoanalyst John Bowlby and others. Basically they say that creating a strong emotional bond between baby and parents helps the child develop secure, peaceful and enduring relationships.

The article discusses how these parents co-sleep with their young children (I thought that this was discouraged by parenting groups) as well as spend all of their time with them.

I am by no means an expert and am open to learning more. As I noted earlier, my entire knowledge base on the topic stems from this article.

I would love to know others thoughts on this. Do you think it is healthy for a relationship to spend 24 hours a day with your children? How do you find “me” time? Do you give up your identity as a person once you have children?
