With the end of April (Gosh it’s flown by) all ready at my door steps I thought it would be a good time to revisit the resolutions I made back in January for 2007. I feel like I am mediocre at best and need to up my game. You’ll see. My updates are in red.
1) Spend more time with my family
With work and volunteering it can often feel like I am constantly on the go. This year I hope to spend more quality time at home, playing with my children, hanging out with my parents, and spending time with my friend Allison before she moves. I am definitely doing well with this one. I have actually resigned from one of my volunteer groups and have pulled back from another. I am also spending and investing in more quality time with my children. We are spending more time reading, playing trains, having conversations. Just having fun. I am learning and laughing a lot. My friend Allison now has a hard date for her move, its June. I feel like, in a strange way, that her moving has brought us closer. We have been best friends for a long time, but we were busy with our children for a while. I feel like we have both made a huge effort in these last few months to get together more often. When she leaves in June, it will be hard.
2) Diet, Diet, Diet
Carried over from my 2006 list, I hope to loose the remaining 15 pounds that I gained bringing my two beautiful boys into this world. So bring on the Lean Cuisines, the Propel water and the peanut butter granola bars – I am in it to win it this year!! Let’s be honest here. This is an area where I am pretty much just “talking the talk” but not “Walking the Walk.” My goal, as of tonight, is to make a real effort. Not just on paper, not just in theory, but a real effort….. We’ll see what I have to report in June when I check back in.3) TOP SECRET
I know what this one is, and I hope to accomplish it. OK. Now that I have accomplished this goal I feel I can tell you what it was…… To QUIT SMOKING. That’s right. All of you reading this that know me personally are probably thinking..”What are you talking about? You don’t smoke…” Well, yes. I did. I was a closet smoker for the last year. I smoked just about every day and hid it from everyone. I am not sure why I hid it. I am an adult but something inside of me felt ashamed. I don’t know. But regardless. This is a battle I have won. I can proudly say that I have not had a cigarette since New Year’s Eve.
4) Cook More
For those of you who know me, you know that I have minimal (at best) culinary skills. For the better part of my marriage I have skidded through my night to cook with various renditions of spaghetti and hot dish. While I am grateful to have a husband that is a foodie at heart and a wonderful cook, I vow to prepare at least one meal a week that does not contain a noodle…. Honestly… not so much. As a matter of fact, I made dinner tonight and it was noodle based. Maybe I should take a cooking class? I loved Home Econ. in high school. I’ll keep working on this and let you know…
5) Finish the Basement
Since moving in 4 years ago we have done a lot of work to our home. The one area that has not progressed much however is our basement. This year I promise to set aside the time to paint the walls (still cafeteria green..) and to redo the floors – pulling out the dingy grey carpet and putting in hardwood (of course all with my husband’s assistance). May 7. That is when our contractor begins work. That is the date when my house will begin it’s transition from its comfortable spot in the 70′s to a more modern updated home….. Pictures and posts to follow shortly.
Congrats on quiting. I think it sounds like you are actually doing pretty well with your list. I on the other hand, not so much.
Congrats on stopping smoking. That’s impressive. Also, I love the pic of Family Ties. Fits number 1 perfectly. Plus, Alex P Keaton is the reason I write my name with my middle initial. Seriously.

Good for you on updating your list of resolutions and sticking with it!
I am glad you will not be smoking in the bathroom pretending your kids don’t notice when they are teenagers!
Great job!

Sounds like you’re doing pretty darned well on those resolutions. Can’t say the same for me … there’s always next year.
Glad you quit the cancer sticks! That’s tremendous.
