My girlfriend and her husband just bought a house. When they went to fill out all of the loan paperwork they had my girlfriend, who is a very successful marketing gal, listed as a homemaker. At first when she saw this she thought it was a mistake. She has a full time job with an agency and does pretty well. When she asked the loan gentleman about it he told it that essentially, her income didn’t matter. This surprised her. She was also surprised that during the entire process, her husband was listed as the primary and she was the secondary, even though they were applying for the loan together. She said that at one point when she decided she was going to start signing the first line, that the guy asked her not too!
So here are my questions:
1. Would it bother you to be called a homemaker if you worked outside of the home?
2. Why is the financial world so sexist?
I wouldn’t care if I was listed as a homemaker on paperwork.
When I got my car this year, we origially applied together, but he had me only on the loan and said that Jason’s income didn’t matter. And believe me he makes more than me (my 25 hours a week).
It was just the primary applicant is checked first and if they don’t need to run the 2nd they don’t.
