Helping Children In Need

This week I am extremely busy preparing for my fundraiser on Friday. The event is being held from 5-10 p.m. at a Pachinko (a bar) in Covington, KY (Cincinnati Suburb) and will benefit FACES without PLACES, a non-profit that I am on the board of. The group helps children that are experiencing homelessness stay connected to their educations. They do a lot of great things during the year including providing children with essentials like school supplies, backpacks and even something as simple as shoes. They even provide a FREE multi-week summer camp for the kids.

On paper the event looks like it is going to be really successful. We have already sold more than 800 raffle tickets for our ‘big’ prize – dinner for two at McCormick & Schmick’s (mmmm), a pair of tickets to a Cincinnati Bengals game and an autographed Carson Palmer (Bengals Quarterback) jersey. In addition to that prize, last night I received an autographed jersey from Shayne Graham, the Bengals Kicker, to auction off (I have worked with Shayne several times and he is awesome-very nice and very philanthropic). It is crazy but I think it is the jersey he wore in the Pro Bowl last year. I’m going to double check.

Needless to say, getting all the details nailed down and preparing for the big day has been a lot of work. The cause is just so important and I want to make sure this goes of without a hitch.

I want to say that I could not have done this without the help of some of my friends. They have amazed me with their generosity. From selling raffle tickets at their jobs to donating food and raffle prizes, they have all been so amazing. I really don’t know how I will repay them.

The event is Friday so I probably wont have recovered enough to post until Saturday afternoon but I’ll definitely let you all know how it went. I’m really excited!
