Hip, Hip Hooray!!

I did it…I survived my first NaBloPoMo. I’m proud that I was able to make it through and I’m proud of all my blogging friends that made it too (here are a few):

Cathy at ArkieMama

I’d love to blog more about the experience, what it was like, if I’d do it again etc. but I’m just to exhausted.

Maybe I’ll take the weekend off….

Meeting BlogHer Co-Founder Jory Des Jardins

Today I had the good fortune of attending a small presentation on BlogHer given by co-founder Jory Des Jardins. My husband’s company had invited Jory to Cincinnati to talk to them about BlogHer and the services they provide. Knowing that I am both an avid blogger as well as a member of BlogHer myself, my husband was kind enough to make arrangements so that I could attend.

After the presentation (which was great) I had the opportunity to chat with Jory for a few minutes along with Susan and Tela from Working Moms Against Guilt. We chatted about this great big beautiful world of blogging and how it is forever evolving. I have to say that I was really impressed by Jory. She’s not only a founder of one of the top online organizations for women but she was smart and approachable too. I really liked her.

Not having been able to attend BlogHer ’07 I was really surprised to learn about all that took place during last year’s conference as well as all of the great events they have planned for 2008.

It was so nice to talk with a group of women that enjoy blogging and the online experience as much as I do. If you aren’t a member of BlogHer, you might want to check it out. I’ve personally me made a lot of great friends through the site.

Avoiding the Gym….

I got up at 5 a.m. this morning all pumped (not really) to go to the gym, only to realize that I hadn't charged my ipod and I couldn't find my gym pants. I ended up just using the time to catch up on all my favorite blogs.  By the time I would have gotten to the gym it would have been too late to get in a good work out and be back by the time the boys were up.

I'll try again on Friday as there is no way I'm getting up that early again tomorrow!

I'm off to bed now…..

Pixies Have Nothing to do With Christmas

So tonight I drive to my Mom’s house after work to pick up the boys like I always do and things are normal.

When I get there I hang out for a while as the boys finish up their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. At one point SM does something rowdy, and before I can address it I hear my Mom say the following:

“SM, don’t forget, Santa gives away a present to the pixies each time you do something naughty.”

It took me a moment to process. Did my mother really just tell my son that Santa gives your presents to the pixies if you are bad? I giggle for a moment until I remember that my son is a “human sponge” and I can just see the reactions of his school friends (and his teacher) when he tries to share this little ‘factoid’ with them.

I immediately try to correct things and I tell him that Grandma is just being silly. I reiterate that Santa does indeed have a list, that he checks twice, with names of little girls and boys who are good. I explain that Santa is watching over him to make sure he behaves, and that you do get fewer presents if Santa finds out you’ve been naughty.

Over course my mother is in stitches and doesn’t see what the problem is. That maybe her story is true. Maybe Santa does give the presents that he ‘takes away’ when your bad and gives them to poor pixie children? Who knows..
