So yesterday I was reading the news online and came across a story about a mother in Iowa that was in trouble for taking an ad out in her local paper, to sell her breast milk.
At first I thought it was odd that she would try and sell her breast milk. I personally could not imagine feeding my child someone else’s breast milk. I didn’t know a lot about the issue so I did a quick Google search quickly learned that this was not that odd of a practice. I was actually surprised to see that there are businesses that buy breast milk from mothers and make it available to those that are not able to provide their own milk to their children.
When you think about it in that light it make sense. Who wouldn’t want to at least have the option of providing their newborn child something as nutritious as breast milk.

You really don’t want to get a blood transfusion while you are in the hospital unless absolutely necessary, right?
Well, consider that you are basically doing that with your child.
If you can not breast feed. Formula is fine.
Perhaps selling your breastmilk/ or donating it to 3rd world countries.. then OK, but other than that.. I wouldn’t subject my child to someone elses intakes/etc.
You just never know what gets by the screening process.

I agree. I don;t think I could do it, but I wouldn’t stop other moms from doing so.
I imagine that it would be difficult if you felt passionately about BF and then found out you couldn’t. This gives those women a viable option… Now I wouldn’t buy it from an ad in the paper, but I micht check out a milk bank.
My daughter couldn’t nurse when she was born so I pumped and pumped until she got the hang of it, which was until she was about 7 weeks old. Well, now she’s 7 months old and absolutely refuses to take a bottle so I have a freezer full of milk, literally thousands of ounces so I did look into selling my milk a few months ago. Guess who are the main consumers of it… its not mothers who can’t nurse…. its men with breastfeeding fetishes. Gross, but true.
