It’s Here.. Strep

It’s official. SM has strep. It all started yesterday when he came home from school. He got off the bus and my mom could tell something was wrong. He was very pale and barely had the energy to cross the street. Throughout the evening it just got worse. He spent most of the night on the ‘snuggle’ couch in the basement. He had no appetite and no desire to move around. We ended up just letting him sleep there, something I could tell he appreciated.

This morning, even though he was feeling better, I kept him home from school. I was afraid, even if he was feeling better, that he would exhaust himself, especially since today was Gym day.

It ended up being good that I kept him home because my mom called around 11 a.m. to let me know that he had gotten worse. His temperature had gone up to 101.6 and his appetite had left again (it had returned briefly in the a.m. when he had been feeling better.) . Additionally he was now complaining about his back feeling achy.

Now I was freaking out.

I hung up with my mom and called the Dr. Luckily she had an opening at 4:30 p.m. so I was able to get him in pretty quickly.

With in moments of meeting with the Dr. (and after he threw up all over the examination room floor) she was able to determine that he had strep. She gave us a prescription and hopefully we are on our way to recovery. She also told us that he’ll need to stay home from school tomorrow. The timing, with tomorrow being Friday, works well since it will give him all weekend to get better.

  1. I am so sorry for your guy. I have 6 kids and 1 gets strep all the time. I know because his voice gets different and he runs a fever. Everytime I take him and they test him they warn me about contagious it is. My other kids have never gotten it from him. I have a daughter who has had it a few times but again no one else got it. I hope he gets feeling better and you don't get it from him.

    Take Care:)

  2. I hope the kiddo feels better soon.

Also, thank you for linking me and I started a list of blogs I like and included yours.

  3. Sick kids are so pitiful. I throw out all the rules and let mine veg on the couch, snacking in front of the TV (I cover the couch with sheets and a towel first).
