Going Buns Over Tea Kettle

So the B-Man had a rough one tonight at dinner.
I’ve been working a lot of late hours tonight for a project that finally ended today. To celebrate we decided to take the family out to dinner. We headed down to our favorite restaurant in a cute little neighborhood where we lived before the boys were born.

Within moments of being seated I look over and watch the B-man lean backwards in his chair (he refuses to sit in a booster so he sits on his knees) causing his chair to flip back onto the floor. As the chair flips back his poor little body flips forward. I instantly swoop him up, check him for damage and try to console him. We get lucky and fortunately he is fine. I sit there in disbelief that he doesn’t have a scrape on him and that he didn’t hit himself on the table.

I take him to the bathroom to make sure he is OK and to dry the tears. I use some of my special Mommy – tactics to cheer him up and reassure him that he is OK.

Shortly after we return to the table the boy’s food arrives (we usually have it come out first).

As the boys begin to dig in I look over and the B-man is coughing – at least I thought he was coughing. As I look more closely I notice that he is actually CHOKING on a piece of chicken. I get the chicken out of his mouth pretty quickly but I can instantly tell that he is freaked out.

As the meal progressed his luck improved and he managed to make it through to the end with out incident.

The poor fella, when it rains it pours.

  1. Aw, poor little guy. We’ve had similar incidents in restaurants, like the one in which E-man choked on the slice of lemon he was trying to swallow whole …

At least you finally made it thru…

  2. Poor little guy! Some days are rough. Glad he is okay though :)

  3. Ahh! Choking is my most-feared incident. I always panic if one of my kids makes even the slightest gagging sound. I have been known to leap across whole rooms in a single motion when I thought one of them was choking. On my part, it’s always a huge overreaction (so far thank goodness!) And for some reason, I am always annoyed at my poor hubby for not being as panicked as I am…not realizing that it is a GOOD thing for at least ONE of us to have a clear head!!

  7. Awww. Poor kid. I agree with the other poster–choking is a BIG mommy-freak out of mine.

    I’m glad things improved.
