Sweet Moments Between Brothers

Yesterday I arrived at my Mothers around 5:30 p.m. to pick up the boys as I do everyday. The B-man was particularly riled up and did not want to get his coat on to go home. He was being very cute (and in his mind funny) and kept running around the room laughing as I tried to pin him down each time he passed near me. While not being listened to is frustrating, there was a very sweet moment that made my heart melt.

Me: B-man, we need to put our coats on. It’s time to go home.
B-man: No way Mom…. I stay at grandmas.
Me: Come on buddy. We have to go home to our house.
B-man: No thanks!

This goes on for two or three minutes, him laughing and giggling the whole time. Very entertained with himself.

Me: Okay, then. SM and I are leaving. I guess you’ll just have to live with grandma.
B-man: okay. I stay with grandma.
Me: Yep, SM and I will go home and you can live with grandma.

SM: (starting to cry) Mom… He can’t live here, then I’ll have no one to play with. He has to come home.

It was a huge step. To see that SM views the B-man, who is 3 years younger than him, as a playmate and friend. It just melted my heart to know that he loves him and that the B-man means enough to him to make him emotional. He really is growing up.

PS… It is not really ‘punishment’ to have to live with my mother. I was just trying to get him to get his coat on. My Mom’s house is fun…. (Love you Mom!!)

  1. These are the moments that we hold on to as parents. They help us make it through the times when they decide to cut each other’s hair (happened to my two not too long ago) or draw on their walls with permanent marker (another recent stunt) or choose to disown each other (a regular occurrence on the card ride home). Thanks for sharing what we all can relate to. Enjoy your Saturday ahead.
