I am not sure what happened

Today was one of those days where you wake up, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, it’s all very Snow White Esque. The children are all happy and sweet.

And then something happens…..Evening comes and there is a change in the air.
]
It all started when I picked up the boys from my mother’s. The B-man started whining about going home, then his brother chimes in about not wanting to do his homework. We get home to work on it and he starts pouting saying he wants to quit school (OK, he is in Kindergarten).

I try to calm him and ask him why he wants to quit. And he explains, between tears, that his class as a whole got in trouble today and so they were not allowed any play time.

So I get things worked out with him, Marty arrives home and we decide to go out to eat. We head to a few places close to home but they both have early closing times (8pm..WTF). We then drive a little further and find a restaurant that everyone agrees on. The hostess seats us and things seem fine, for a few moments.

The restaurant is one of those that has games available to help distract children while you wait for your meal. Well they only give us one (we have two children people) and of course the B-Man and SM begin to fight over it. I take it away and the B-Man has a MAJOR melt down. He begins yelling and hitting (have I mentioned how awesome two is???), just really being awful.

The hubs and I immediately decide to leave. The boys are devastated and the B-Man cries all the way home. In the end we just hit up a drive through.

Thankfully, by the time we ate and the boys had baths, it was time for bed. Here’s hoping tomorrow is much better!

  1. I have had those kind of moments/days. I can feel your pain and exhaustion.

    One thing we began to do was carry a back pack full of crayons, paper, books and hand-held-non-electric toys (like a mini etch-a-sketch), in our car for use at restaurants, etc. This helped greatly! One thing we had to make sure of is that there were 2 of most things so they would not fight over whatever it was.

  2. oh yeah, i think playing outside now drains them more and they are more of a basket case in the evenings now.
    we’ve had that scene before.
    it sucks.
    that’s why we really don’t go out to eat anymore with the kids.
    really.
    tops is once a week and sometimes not even that much.
    i just do not enjoy carting kids back and forth to the bathroom 8 times and telling them to behave.

  3. “Just one of those days” eh? Yeah, my son told me in the car last night that he thinks he is allergic to Kindergarten.
