This weekend I had one of those moments where I did something brilliant – genius even – without even realizing it. Those of you who follow me on Twitter know that I spent ALL weekend working on the landscaping in the front yard. On Saturday I mowed and seeded the front lawn while the boys napped and on Sunday I focused on the flower boxes.

Sunday took the most time. I spent almost 2 hours at Home Depot purchasing new supplies. I picked up flowers and new flower box inserts, I purchased new 2x4s for the wrought iron flower box holders, I picked up 15 bags of Cyprus mulch and 6 bags of potting soil. In total I made three trips to the car. I was there so long that I ran in to my friend Jenny twice. In between our meetings she’d run home, fed the kids and returned with her Mom!
So here is the instance of ignorant brilliance. I don’t know why, buy this year I decided to purchase inserts for our flower boxes-in the past I had just planted them directly into the box.
Well it turns out that I made the right decision because the next day I find out that we are expecting FROST and am informed that this KILLS flowers! Augh. I wanted to scream. All that blood, sweat and energy, not to mention the $$$ spent on flowers.
So tonight, to beat the frost at it’s own game, the hubs graciously agreed to pull all of the flower boxes and bring them inside to safety.
Sometimes things just fall into place…. Thank goodness!!!
