Another Busy Weekend

Wow. Another busy, fun and adventure filled Saturday at our house.

We started off the day watching SM play his final soccer game of the spring session. He really has come along way since he started playing four months ago. Soccer has been huge in helping him with his confidence, with his listening and attention span, and even with his coordination. He’s made several good friends and I’m excited that he’ll be playing with them again in the fall. After Soccer we headed to a play land for the birthday party I mentioned previously. We actually ended up arriving at the party about an hour and a half after it had started because of the soccer game. I’d checked with the little boys mother about arriving late and she said it worked since she’d probably be there later than scheduled and she was right. She and I ended up chit chatting while the boys played for an extra 2 hours after the party had officially ended.

From there we came home and prepped for a picnic at the local park. After eating we played on the playground for a while and then headed down the hill to play in the field directly behind the swing set.

After getting further down into the field my husband found a honey suckle bush (bush or tree??) and taught the boys how to properly taste the “honey” inside.

After about 20 minutes of that (good thing the flowers only contain a small drop of honey) we headed off for a little hike through the woods.

Needless to say, a good time was had by all and everyone should sleep well tonight. Tomorrow: We celebrate the B-Man’s birthday. The big T-H-R-E-E!

Birthday Spending. What’s Normal?

So this Saturday SM has been invited to attend a birthday party for one of his friends from school (he’s in Kindergarten). This is the first time that he’s been invited to a party where the parent of the child does not also happen to be one of my gal pals.

While I am excited about him going to the party, I am not sure about the gift etiquette. What is the appropriate spending amount for a 6 year old child who you don’t really know?
As I mentioned before, we’ve always gone to the parties of children we are friends with. For them, going a little overboard on the gift is the norm because their like family. Usually it’s children I’ve known since they were born.
I went ahead and took the boys shopping this evening to pick up the gift and ended up spending about $25, not including the gift bag, tissue paper, b-day card, etc.
SM really likes the gifts we picked out (and I do too) and I feel like the amount I spent is appropriate, but I just want to make sure the spending level/gift is on par with the norm.
Any advice/insight you guys have would be greatly appreciated. It’s really not about the money, I’d just love to know what you think is appropriate. Should I spend more? Less?

The ties come in cute prints like “Upstream Battle”- a pattern of salmon ascending upstream and “Complete Square”- a design of overlapping squares that’s just enough fun to spice up his office life, but still as conservative as his usual taste.

Bird Dog Bay ties retail for $75.00 each and were excited to be able to give one away to our readers. To enter, simply leave a comment below noting your favorite tie from Bird Dog Bay or your favorite gift from Father’s Days past. We’ll announce the winner the afternoon of Sunday, June 1. This will give you plenty of time to select and order your tie in time for Father’s Day.
Being from Kentucky, I’d order the tie pictured above if I won, it’s called Derby Days!
Congrats to our winner………Dr. Cason! Thanks to everyone who entered. There sure are some lucky fathers out there!
