What’s In a Name?
In her post Jen writes about the evolution of her blog, and how she arrived at it’s name, Huckdoll’s Hood. This was something I hadn’t really thought about. I mean, I know why I came up with the name Mommy Bits, but I never really sat down and explained it to you guys. So, here we go, The question you’ve all be asking, “Shannan, Where did the name Mommy Bits come from?” is about to be answered…… and no. It’s not about my “bits”…….
Back in 2006 I started my first blog, NKYGAL. It was a sweet little blog, sort of a mishmash of things going on in the entertainment world, happenings with the boys, regional gossip, world news, etc. While I loved it as I continued to blog I began to notice a trend. My blog was becoming more and more focused on my experiences with the boys and being a mother. With a majority of readers who were ’sans’ children, I decided to split off and create a second blog, focused more on the Mom side of my life. NKYGAL is still around but it is pretty much been on hiatus since Mommy Bits was born.

When trying to come up with a name for the new blog I arrived at Mommy Bits because I thought it better reflected what I was mainly writing about, being a mom. Many of the things that were going on in my life were centered on the boys – what they were going through -starting preschool, potty training, etc.-as well as what I was going through -getting the B-Man to sleep through the night, first day of Kindergarten, etc.
For the name I really wanted something that reflected that being a mom is just part of who I am. That is how I arrived at ‘bits’. In my mind it had two meanings. First, that this blog is just about the ‘bits’ of me that are mom related. I am also a wife, an individual, a career woman, a girlfriend, etc. Secondly, this blog contains ‘bits’ of what I am going through as the mother of two boys. There is no way I could blog everything, there would be no down time.
So there it is. How Mommy Bits was born. Now the obvious question, how did you come up with the name of your blog?

I like how you came up with Mommy Bits!
I started my blog in order to keep in touch with out-of-state family as well as document our lives in a journal sort of way. I chose the title “My Memories” as I felt that summed it up.

I was watching the Today show and they were having some anniversary show and I thought of the word blogversary. Well, me and others. But, I just liked the way it sounded and I thought I could do something with it. But, then I had kids and it just became my blog name.
It is easy to remember.

cute story. My blog name is pretty self-explainatory. I had my 3rd child about 6 months before I started my blog. So there I was, a three-time mommy.

I love the name “Mommy Bits” and I’m quite jealous of the title to be honest!
I came up with the ever so boring “The Things We Do” because I couldn’t think of anything else. It used to be my last name and then “Journal” after, but I decided I didn’t want my last name out there.
Then I had something equally as strange, but I can’t remember. Then just out of frustration put down “The Things We Do” because my blog consists of things we do as a family as well as things we do to get by. It was only meant to be temporary but it sort of stuck.
I keep thinking of changing it, but I’m just too lazy.

Hmm…well, my niece couldn’t say “baby” when I was pregnant. It always came out “bubba”. At the time I started the blog, about all Bubba could do was blow bubbles…and I wanted to tell the world about it. Thus, Bubba Bubbles!

I’m an artist. My wife’s family always labeled me as “one of those creative-types that don’t like sports” (their from Ohio, Georgia…)

I came up with mine with I saw a vintage photo entitled “Domestic Accident” It just struck a chord in me.
