…but I am miserable without cable. It’s true. It kills me to admit. I don’t even really watch that much TV. I think it’s just the fact that I don’t have the option – other than BORING basic cable – to watch it.
Last month Marty and I started looking at ways in which we could cut our costs. One of the things that Marty discovered was that by consolidating our cable, phone and Internet to one service provider we could actually save a few $$$. After much discussion – primarily about leaving satellite and going back to cable- we decided to make the switch.
Soon after we called the cable company and set everything up, we called the satellite company to cancel our plan. Everything was fine and dandy with canceling – except for one thing. Satellite would end on Sunday (Nov. 30) and Cable could not begin until Friday (Dec. 5).
At first I didn’t really care. We don’t really watch TV and if we do it’s after the boys are in bed. It wasn’t until tonight when the pain it. I put the boys to bed, came down and logged on to the computer, grabbed the remote and boom — turned on the TV only to find that my only option for TV viewing was…… “According to Jim.” WHAT???
I know that I will be fine and I’ve actually been renting movies lately from the grocery store (more to come on this later). I think the issue is that I am having flashbacks to my poor college days… a time when for more than 3 years I suffered through not having cable – listening to friends talk about how awesome last night’s episode of Sex in the City was or what happened in season 5 of The Real World. It was torturous times people!
OK. I’m sorry. Thanks for letting me rant. I feel better already….. even if I’m having to watch Jim Belushi make Dad’s look like idiots!
So true, I hate according to Jim. So not realistic.
Who actually watches that show.
Oops, people without cable.
at least you have twitter.

I don’t have cable but I only turn my TV on for how I met your mother and the office!

OMG, when I read you were looking at expenses and decided to get rid of your satellite (before I got to the part about switching to cable) I thought about taking up a collection for you. No one should have to live without zillions of channels to choose from! I feel for you in these dark, dark days without extra viewing options. Hang in there.

We only have ‘expanded basic.’ network, basic kids channels, and ESPN BABY! (That’s for me!) I missed the whole ‘Sex and the City’ thing because of it. I actually don’t think I missed much, but DO NOT ask me to miss Monday Night Football. Them are fightin’ words.

I actually like according to Jim – sorry – and I was right there with you in my younger days – three years no T.V. at all…. my mom took pity on my sis and I and taped some things for us…. I don’t watch much T.V. but I think I would miss it…
What’s also killing me is the fact that I don’t have the info button anymore. I can’t see what I’m watching until the station says it or shows it…..boo. Two more days!
Oh man, I remember those days. Mr Blue and I didn’t have cable for the first 5 years of our relationship. Since we’ve joined the 21st (20th?) century, I’ve re-watched a lot of old X-Files episodes, and I’ve realized the show makes a LOT more sense when seen clearly instead of fuzzily through bunny ears.
