Mommy Bits Makes the News

Today the Cincinnati Enquirer ran a story on the Cincinnati blogging scene. My little parenting blog, Mommy Bits, was one of the blogs highlighted in the article along with Julie from Wine Me, Dine Me; Laura from Laura’s Carbon Footprint; Debba from Girlfriendology; Lu from Art Slam.

The article focuses on the growing Cincinnati Women Blogger community.  Over the past year it’s grown by leaps and bounds.  I can’t tell you how many amazing friends I’ve made as a result of this blog. I am blessed.

You can find the article here.

If you live in greater Cincinnati and would like to connect with other women bloggers, check out Cincinnati Women Bloggers. It’s a group that brings women together to talk about blogging, social media, etc.

A New Place to Lay My Laptop

After months of work, I finally have an office!  No more blogging from the sofa or couch, no more hot laptop on my lap – I have a desk, a place to call me own!

The planning for “Operation Office” began back in October when we found our contractor.  We were lucky and found a guy right away. Too easy right? Hold on, it gets better.

Since we eat in the kitchen, we decided to transform our virtually unused dining room into an office. First thing we decided to do was rip up the carpet and put tile down. Because the dining room is visible from the kitchen, we needed to find the same tile we’d purchased 5 years ago when we’d redone the kitchen.  Well of course we didn’t save the box that the kitchen tile had come in, we’d only a few tiles. We had no idea what tile to reorder.  CRAP!

To find the tile we went back to the original place we’d purchased it (again…5 yrs ago).  The tile co. seemed confident that they knew our tile and ordered a box to make sure it was correct. We came back the next week (they only order tile once a week) only to find that they’d ordered the wrong “color” of tile. See, our tile has a slight speckle, that apparently is available in 10 different patterns/shades/tones. Ugh!  Needless to say this ordering situation went on for a month!  Finally, in late December, we found the matching tile!  YEAH!

Well after much delay, I am happy to report that it is finished and it looks great. It’s totally changed the entire feel of the house.  Check out the photos below!

The look with new tile is a complete 180 from how it looked when it was carpeted.
The room feels a lot bigger and definetly more airy.

This is the fabulous 1970′s carpet the contractor found under our carpet.
If you can’t tell, it’s poop brown and orange polka dots!  Groovy right?

My husband and I attempt to put together the furniture we picked up at IKEA (I LOVE IKEA!!).
We stayed up until 3 a.m. but got it all together and set up!

Ta-da!  The new office!
We went with two desks, back to back and then two bookcases. It’s so great! We now have our own space to have our computers, printers, work files, etc.

All in all I just love the new look. It feels crisp, clean and modern.  I have to say the boys love it too. The revised use of space has opened up the room for them to play in it.

The next step is to find artwork for the walls. I’m tossing around the idea of making my own, but haven’t found much in the way of inspiration. I’d like something modern with color. If anyone has any suggestions for places to buy art or even to go to get inspired to make my own, I’d love to hear it.  My first thought was to head up to Z Gallery or back to IKEA.
