I’m such a Geek (or The Greatest Valentine’s Day EVER)
I got the go ahead to get the iPhone on Friday and headed straight to Best Buy that evening. (Quick shout out to my sales rep, Phil Colston who ROCKED) If you aren’t aware, Best Buy sells refreshed (gently used – less than 30 days old) iPhones for a fraction of the cost of a new iPhone. I went with the 8G, 3G.
As soon as I got home I started playing around and of course- was to go online to research applications. I found, and added, tons of cool tools – all for FREE – to make my iPhone my own. In addition to adding apps for me, I even found lots of great applications for my kids too.
To celebrate my new iPhone I thought I’d share my favorite iPhone applications for the Mom on the go. A few Top 10 iphone application lists, if you will.
I’ve only had my iPhone for two days, so if you have more you’d recommend, PLEASE leave them in the comments. I am particularly interested in FREE applications.
Top 10 Free iPhone Applications For MOMs:
1. TwitterFon - Like having Twhirl on your phone!
2. Facebook – Let’s you send Status Updates, check inbox, comment on Walls and more. Best of all it tells you when you have a new comment on your wall!
3. Wordpress - You can actually write and publish blog posts from your iPhone.
4. Fring - Let’s you IM, Skype and more from your phone.
5. Flixster – Check local movie listings, DVD release schedules and watch movie trailers.
6. Pandora - That’s right – Pandora is available for your iPhone. NOTE: I feel like Pandora has ESP – it seems to always pick songs I like!
7. Shazam - Just hold your phone up to a speaker and this app can tell you the name and artist!
8. TMZ – Stay connected to celebrity gossip with news feeds, photos and video.
9. Urban Spoon – Find local restaurants, read reviews, and more. NOTE: Hey Cincy- Urban Spoon has reviews by Wine Me, Dine Me Cincinnati too!
10. EverNote - Let’s you save notes via photo, text or voice recording. Great way to not forget things – like I always do!
Top 10 Free iPhone Applications For KIDS:
1. TicTacTouch – Let’s kids play Tic Tac Toe on your phone
2. Dress Chica – My 3yr old’s favorite – Let’s kids play dress up with the cute chicken from Sprouts.
3. Whack’em all – Like Whack-a-mole, this game had my boys laughing so hard they had tears in their eyes.
4. Touch4 - Just like Connect Four.
5. *Doodle Kids – Kids drag their fingers on screen and various shapes are displayed.
6. *Scribble - Let’s kids draw on your iPhone with various colors, etc.
7. Shape Spot – Much like the game concentration, kids have to try and get the shapes in the right spot before the timer expires.
8. Memory Puzzle Game – Classic game of matcher, matcher.
9. Peekaboo Barn – Toddlers have to guess which animal is behind the barn doors.
10. Jumbalo Zoo – Creative game that let’s kids build animals out of various animal parts.
*Thanks to my gal PsychMamma for the reccos!
If you are a tech-geek Mom like me or just a tech geek or just a Mom, I HIGHLY recommend getting an iPhone. You just won’t believe all the things it can do (oh yeah, it’s a phone too).

I love my iPhone. Shazam is the BEST. I also like eZimba – which is kind of goofy – you can funkify your pictures on it. LOVE IT. And thanks for the rec on Fring – love the thought of Skype-ing from anywhere… I also have the goofy freebie Google Earth app. (Oh and Sudoku).

Yaye! I knew you would L.O.V.E the iPhone. I, too, fell in love with mine the minute I got it, and I’ve only had mine going on 2 months.
I have most of your recommended apps, but I use the TWEETIE Twitter app. I really like it. Shazam & Flixster are must haves, eBay and I love the game Mancala. I’ll definitly be checking out the other apps that everyone is recommending. You can’t have too many apps on the phone, that’s my motto.

Thanks for your recommendations! Here are mine (after barely a week with my iphone)
GroceryIQ (mentioned earlier) – love organizing my grocery list by aisle (you can rearrange the aisles to match your store’s); love keeping a master list of commonly needed items, too.
AllRecipes.com Dinner Spinner – you can be in the grocery store and use it for inspiration by defining your own parameters, like: I want to make an Entree with Chicken in Under 20 Minutes. Hit the button, and get loads of 5-star recipes with comments … brilliant!
EasyWriter – lets you turn your phone to landscape mode, which gives you a bigger keyboard for typing email.
Digital Clock – for those of us who can’t see the regular bedside clock at nite without glasses/contacts. I turn it on dim (via the phone’s own Brightness setting, and also the Digital Clock’s own setting), turn the clock sideways to maximize the size of the numbers. You can choose what color you want the numbers displayed in. (I like blue) I believe there’s also an alarm built in but I haven’t used that.

What a great news that Best Buy have a big discount on iPhones.
Husband like hers is the most romantic guy in the world. Even though the wife was the one who picked up the phone but the thoughts of the husband was the most important. He knows that his wife likes iPhone so he buy one.
iPhones are great help now adays. It has special applications can either be used by the parents and children.
Thanks Best Buy for the phone.!!

I’m a Blackberry person myself, but my wife loves her Iphone too. However, I don’t think she would have been as excited to get it on Valentine’s Day! I’d probably be in the “dog house” for that.
You have me thinking though since it’s almost time to find the next perfect Valentine’s Day gift…

I tend to download a lot of games on my iPhone (the free/lite versions) but I always end up getting bored of them and deleting them after a few days. My favorite App at the moment is the New York Times app which just updates daily with news. It’s handy for commuting because there is always something interesting to read.

Iphone, all I can say is…
Tap Tap
Tap Tap
Tap Tap
And if you get this game, all you’ll do is Tap-Tap.
It’s free so no worries. Be careful though, your kids/hubby might not let you have your phone back…

Time to start thinking about looking at the new 4th generation iPhone. Made me chuckle when I read the gizmodo scoop. Some Apple techie leave the new iPhone in a bar and it just happens to end up in the hands of a techie blog – coincidence – i think not….
