Giving Back

Not so Wordless Wednesday..

Last week I had the chance to volunteer at the Parish Kitchen in Covington through Leadership Northern Kentucky and it was one of the most amazing experiences.

The Parish Kitchen provides full, free hot meals every day to anyone who comes through their door.

After having learned about the non-profit organization during Leadership, our class decided to sign up to prepare a meal for the Parish Kitchen, one day a month.  The way it works is you come down to the Parish Kitchen and they have the recipe and all the ingredients ready for you.  You and your team (4 people) prep the meal so that it can be cooked and served the next day.  My understanding is that every meal served by the PK is prepped by a volunteer group which blows my mind.

It was such a small task in the big scheme of things- just an hour and half of my time – but it meant that a lot of people would have a warm, filling meal the next day.  It was a good reminder that even a small act can have a big impact. I’ll definitely do it again.

You can learn more about the Parish Kitchen, HERE.

Thank you for sharing that experience. I have volunteered w. a soup kitchen before and it is truly humbling and incredible, all at once.

Love your way of giving back. I recently finished the book Same Kind of Different As Me. I highly recommend it to you, if you like reading. It’s the story of an unlikely friendship between two men and an incredible woman and it centers around a homeless shelter’s kitchen.

You’re doing a wonderful thing for people who need it, and you are setting a great example in community service for your kids! Congratulations!

My WW post is up here.
