My Ninja’s Gone Yellow!

After a rocky & emotional experience at the end of last school year, Marty & I had decided to enroll SM in Karate to help build his confidence levels back up.  While it’s just been a few months, in my opinion (and his new teacher’s too) it’s been pretty successful, building both his confidence and his self esteem.

I write about this because yesterday SM tested for his yellow belt. I can’t tell you how proud I was of him. How amazing it was to see this little boy, who just a few months ago had really lost quite a bit of confidence in himself, go out and demonstrate his karate skills in a room full of strangers, and in front of his Shihan & his Sensei.  It was amazing.

Here are a few photos from the testing session.

One Response to “My Ninja’s Gone Yellow!”

  1. Yeah SM! Look how happy he is! That’s awesome, Shannan!

But I’m sorry that he had to go through that at the end of last year though… I didn’t know that and it breaks my heart. SM is such a great kid. Life’s a journey though, right? And if he didn’t have to go through that, maybe he wouldn’t have been there yesterday accomplishing this great thing! (I’m just rationalizing with myself right here… you probably already know all that!)
