Get Your Sexy Back – SparkPeople.com’s The Spark Giveaway

Skinny ShannanGIVEAWAY CLOSED

Last week I wrote about how I was once again trying to lose weight. Seems this gal got a little too friendly with the Cherry Cordial ice cream, letting her late night snacking habit get the best of her, and now she’s paying for it with drumstick thighs and a new ginormous rear end. {Creepy talking in 3rd person, right??}

Well if you’ve checked in over at Cincinnati Losers you know that one of the main things I am doing to help myself achieve success is using a site called SparkPeople.com.  Spark People is a great (FREE) weight loss resource that offers meal & calorie tracking, fitness tracking, support and a myriad of healthy resources (including recipes).

They also have a great iPhone application that let’s you enter food items (even fast food/restuarant) and check the calorie/fat levels before you order.  It’s been a life saver – keeping me from eating items that sounded healthy, but in fact were not! {Unfortunately I did not use the application when we ate at Olive Garden and I trusted their menu when it said “low fat.” I checked online when I got home, and to my surprise “low fat” meant 17 grams of fat – UGH!!! Lesson learned.}

So, how am I doing so far with my weight loss you ask? Well I am happy to report that after my first week of watching my diet and exercising, I have lost just over 2lbs!  It’s working and I am psyched.

TheSparkCoverTo celebrate this first milestone. This step towards getting my “sexy back”, I am giving away two copies of SparkPeople.com’s new book, The Spark. Written by SparkPeople.com’s founder Chris Downie, The Spark is a 28-day plan for losing weight and getting in shape that just came out December 28th (Initial pre-order efforts put the book on Amazon’s (#8) and BN.com’s (#2) top 10 best-seller list in less than 4 days!).

WIN IT — Two lucky Mommy Bits readers will win a copy of SparkPeople.com’s book, The Spark.

There are several ways to enter, you can do one or all of them for additional chances:

  1. Leave a comment sharing one of your favorite dieting tips or weight loss tricks.
  2. Add my blog to your blogroll and leave a comment letting me know you did so.
  3. Follow the Mommy Bits blog on Facebook’s Networked blogs (left side bar, click follow this blog) and leave a comment letting me know you did so.
  4. Subscribe to my blog, and leave a comment letting me know you did so.
  5. Follow me on Twitter – @Shannanb, and leave a comment letting me know you did so.
  6. Tweet  “Check it out, @shannanb is giving away copies of @sparkpeople’s book The Spark on her blog http://ow.ly/TPEd” and leave a comment letting me know you did so.

Submissions are due by 5 pm on Friday, January 15th, 2010. Winners will be selected using a random number generator. Contest open to US residents only. Winners will have 48 hours to respond.

For those of you who are interested in purchasing The Spark, it is available online at Barnes & Noble, and through Amazon.

Thank you to SparkPeople.com for providing me with copies of The Spark to giveaway to my readers!

You can not go back looking at pictures BK.. (before kids) although I do it sometimes.. because it is too depressing… and I will say you really don’t look that much different than that picture!
I understand your need to lose weight if you don’t feel great about yourself, but I think you look great!!!!
I don’t blow smoke, so for real.

one of my favorite dieting tips has always been the weight watchers dip-your-fork-in-the-dressing-instead-of-pouring-it-on-your-salad trick. not that it will help you melt the pounds away in and of itself, but it’s an easy lifestyle change to make that definitely doesn’t hurt. and it still tastes good. :)

  3. ShannanB 8 January 2010 at 1:25 am Permalink

I love that tip! I love dressing and always over portion!!

The one item that absolutely helps me when dieting is to definitely drink your 8 glasses of water every day. Don’t count milk, juice or any of the other liquids (although technically they do count), just straight up 8 cups of water a day!

Congrats on the first week, you are rockin’ it!

Ooo and I’m of course following your blog on FB :)

Drinking 8 glasses of water is hard for me. I looked back over my Nutrition log on SparkPeople.com for the last week and the best I did was 4 glasses. How do you do it? Do you use flavored powders?

Perhaps my coffee consumption is getting in the way??

Although I have less to lose (8 lbs), I’ve got the same goal weight as you and I’m committed to hitting the gym at LEAST 2X per week and taking classes that push me beyond my comfort zone.

Packing my lunch and forgoing evening snacks is my “diet.”

Of course you’re already on my blogroll and I’m pfollowing you on Facebook &, Twitter

Hi, I’m a first time visitor! Just wanted to say that I had really good success on Sparkpeople after my daughter was born. It’s a great site and great motivation.

My #1 health and wellness tip is to avoid sugar and refined flour as much as possible. Eating it makes me hungry more often and sluggish throughout the day, plus it is so much easier to pack on pounds. So I try not to keep food in the house that tempts me that way.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

My favorite trick is to drink plenty of water and to walk as much as a can. I use stairs instead of the elevator and park the farthest away from the store. I try to get as many steps as I can.

My weight loss tip is this: use SparkPeople.com for food journaling. Once I realized what and how much I was eating, I started making better choices. I’ve lost 3 lbs since Christmas!

    thanks for the giveaway!

My diet tip is to drink plenty of water. When you want to add a splash of flavor, Crystal Light tastes great….just remember that each individual packet is actually 2 servings if you are counting calories!!

Hi Shannan, now you are getting me motivated. I just logged in to join. Of course, I don’t think this is going to help me in a week when I am on a cruise with some of my girlfriends (all who are teeny tiny). So, maybe I will have to start after the cruise. I’ve already got you on my blog roll too. Best of luck!

My best dieting tip would be to stop buying the sweets and junk you shouldn’t be eating for anyone in your house. This is always my downfall, I continue to buy what I normally would for my husband and kiddos and them I wind up eating it too in a weak moment. I have also found that walking with a friend helps keep us both motivated.

Oh, I love sparkpeople! My tip is to start NOW, today, do NOT put it off just because you ate choco-pebbles for breakfast and didn’t workout at all and it’s 11 pm already. Start now, make up your mind to make your next choice a GOOD choice!

Whenever I go anywhere I always park at the fathest end of the parking lot so I get my walking in for the day. I also try to take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible.

I really like spark people – when I use it I can be bad about going there and entering especially when I know I’ve been bad. This is my first real attempt at losing weight and for me the first thing I did was cut out Pepsi – I drank a lot of it!!!! You’ve been on my blogroll a long time. Now I’m following you on facebook and I subscribed and I am off to tweet about you right now!!! I hope I win. Good luck on your journey!!

I really like Spark People but I have another tip – peertrainer.com. You can upload all of your info in your personal diary and form groups of up to four people that you are accountable to. I love it. I also drink my water daily so I don’t overeat.

my favorite weight loss tip is up your fiber with chia seeds which also provide tons of nutrition

and this one I’m borrowing from Dr. Huber: avoid pasta, potatoes, rice and bread (my add-on tip: it’s harder than it sounds so you must have a plan -know what you will eat instead –before you start)
