So last week you may remember that I had the chance to giveaway a pair of tickets to opening night of Spring Awakening, the eight-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical on performance now at the Aronoff through January 24 (Congrats again to Nancy at the blog Bride Face! I hope you enjoyed the show.).
Well in addition to getting a pair of tickets to giveaway, the people with Spring Awakening were kind enough to give me a pair of tickets to last night’s premier as well. Wooo!
.
Here’s a little bit about the show, courtesy of Spring Awakening:
The musical is about three German teenagers coming of age in 1890′s Germany–juxtoposed with a Grammy-winning rock score by Duncan Sheik. This adaptation of a play from the 1890s really serves to show how little has changed in a hundred years. Teenagers still have the same questions, and parents still don’t know how to communicate honestly and effectively with their children. We thought this subject matter would be of interest to your readers who may have teens, pre-teens, or care about parenting in general.
With my friend Laura getting ready to move to Seattle (booooo), I invited her to see the show with me.

Let me just cut to the chase and say that we both loved it. From the stage set up (they have on-stage seating) to the music (a Grammy-winning score by Duncan Sheik!!) to the actors themselves, the show took me on an emotional roller coaster covering every issue you can imagine. One moment I was laughing, the next I was close to tears. You really connect with the characters.
I don’t want to give away the plot, but I would recommend seeing it – and perhaps doing so with someone you won’t embarrass easily around (there are some scenes that push the envelope a little).
One final note, one thing that I thought was really cool is that the lead female role of Wendela is played by a CCM graduate – Christy Altomare.
The show will be in Cincinnati through January 24th so there’s plenty of chances to get your tickets. You can actually get them online for as low as $22.50, HERE.

So glad you loved it, Shannan! I knew you would! Thanks for working with us and for helping to spread the word.
Keep up the great work!

Glad you liked the show! Justin Scott Brown (ensemble/understudy for the male lead Melchior) is also a recent CCM grad. That’s a great school!

Are you really Taylor’s Mom? I am so embarrassed, lol.
He is so talented. His vocal performances were amazing.
So glad you liked the show! I had a chance to see the show when it was here last year. I, too, loved it, but yeah definitely go see it with anyone but your parents. LOL

I saw Spring Awakening when it came to Columbus. If you can get on stage seating! It’s like theater in the round. You miss a little bit like when the actors are singing to the house audience, but they make up for it by sitting next you to when they aren’t on stage and dance and sing to you during some of the big production numbers. And believe it or not the on stage seats are DISCOUNTED. For the experience I had, I expected to pay more money, not less! Don’t tell the producers that though, OK?
