A few months ago my husband and I decided to make some pretty big changes to the types of foods our family was eating. We wanted to start eating healthier and transition processed foods out of our diets.
As part of the process I took the time to meet with an amazing local health coach, who spent more than 3 hours with me at our local grocery, teaching me how to shop better.
Now that school is back in session, I want to keep the momentum going, and have decided that this year the boys will be packing their lunch each day. It’s not that our school doesn’t offer great menu items, it’s just that this will allow me to control the ingredients a little better.
Packing lunches on a regular basis is a new experience for us. While the boys would occasionally pack their lunch before when they just couldn’t fathom eating what was being served at school, this will be the first time that they will be doing it everyday. As such, I would love any suggestions you all might have for blogs or sites that share lunch ideas. Here is what is on the menu for this week:
Tuesday:
SM: Ham sandwich, whole grain bread | Blueberries| EnviroKidz Crispy Rice Bars | 100% Juice
BMan: PB&J, whole grain bread | Blueberries | EnviroKidz Crispy Rice Bars | 100% Juice
Wednesday:
Turkey Roll-up, Whole wheat wrap| Strawberries | Pretzels | 100% Juice
Thursday:
PB&Banana Wrap, whole wheat wrap| Grapes | EnviroKidz Crispy Rice Bars | 100% Juice
Friday:
Homemade “Lunchables” | Strawberries | Pretzels w/ peanut butter| 100% Juice
OK, so as you can see, nothing too groundbreaking or creative this week, which is why I would love to know of any good resources for ideas
. I’ll be searching for ideas this week and over the weekend and will let you know what I end up doing next week. Hopefully I can find some creative menu ideas.
How about you? Are your kids packing this year? What are you sending them off with?
PS. If you are packing lunches, check out the site LunchIt PunchIt. They not only focus on all the benefits of packing lunch, but they share a ton of great lunch related links on their Facebook page too.
