Sometimes as a blogger you get to do some pretty fun things. Recently, that meant being invited to meet with Lee Krombholz of Krombholz Jewelers and create my own jewelry style case in his store.
Now, I am the first to admit that I wouldn’t think of myself as stylish or fashion forward, but as I met with Lee and we talked, I realized that I do have a fashion sense. It’s just more “Classic” in nature.
In addition to creating the case, Lee interviewed me for his blog about my fashion & style inspirations. You can check it out, here. There are also several other local bloggers working with Lee including my friends Julie Niesen (Wine Me Dine Me, Cincinnati), Tamia Stinson (The Style Sample) and Andrea Deckard (Savings Lifestyle), so be sure to check his blog each month to read their fashion tips and inspirations.
When it comes to the arts, I am all about getting the kids involved, exposed and engaged. From being raised by an artist to working in the arts, I see a true value to having the arts in the boys’ lives.
Last night we had the chance to see The Addams Family Musical at The Aronoff. While the boys have seen plenty of theatre performances (they’re regulars at the Children’s Theatre), it was their first time seeing a Broadway show.
Overall the evening was a huge success. The show opens with the classic Addams Family music, which had the boys’ attention right away – they were completely engaged, snapping their fingers with the tune. From the humor of Gomez (who is one of the best performers I have seen) to that of Uncle Fester (who was the boy’s favorite), the show captured their interest and had them laughing through both the first and second acts.
For the adults, I think you’ll enjoy the humor and innuendo, as well as the singing (all of the performers had amazing voices). In particular you’ll enjoy the “Full Disclosure” number that closes out the first act and the bizarre (yet mesmerizing) number where Uncle Fester performs “The Moon and Me.”
My husband and I really enjoyed the show and while it is pretty family friendly, there are a few scenes (Full Disclosure, right before the end of act 1) where the sexual references get a little much for the younger set. If your kids are like mine though it’ll go right over their heads and they won’t even notice. (I did cover my 6 yr olds eyes when Alice gets her chest grabbed.)
I really think it was a great way to introduce the boys to Broadway theatre. They enjoyed every minute of the show. At the end of the night I asked the boys if they’d recommend The Addams Family to a friend. Both said yes, and when asked why… They said, “Because it’s so funny, Mom.” ‘Nough said
THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

So, it should come as no surprise that I was super excited to be invited down to check out the new storefront location for Streetpops, Cincinnati’s very own small batch gourmet popsicle business.
Sara, the owner, invited our family down last night, and let me just tell you upfront, the popsicles were pretty darn amazing. Amazing. The boys had raspberry lemonade versions and I had a orange spiced – tupelo flavored popsicle.
On Friday March 30 from 5-11 Streetpops is having their Grand Opening event. They”ll be having cocktail inspired pops (for the grownups, of course, art from local architect/photographer/city flea-er Nick DeWald, music from DJ Sebastian Botzow, and more.
After that they’ll be open 12-6 Thursday through Sunday and of course you’ll still be able to find their popsicle carts at markets and events around the city
As the mother of two boys, it should come as no surprise that my boys are HUGE LEGO fanatics, so much so that on Christmas morning it looked like the LEGO store had exploded in my living room. So, knowing this, imagine their excitement when I told them that the LEGO KidsFest national tour was coming to Duke Energy Convention Center March 23 – 25, 2012?!
As you can imagine, they about flipped their lids. They really are big LEGO fans. So much so that we are planning our family vacation to include a trip to Legoland California in August.
