Celebrity Sightings – BlissDom Edition

Today at Blissdom my FAVORITE author, Jen Lancaster shared her insights on getting your book published. Now, before you just to conclusions, this mom blogger has no interest in writing a book, I just wanted to hear her speak.  Sorry the picture is so crappy. I will steal (leagally of course) one from Heather at Domestic Extroardinaire.

Nashville Bound

Tonight Christina (A Mommy Story), Heather (Domestic Extroardinare) and Amy (Amy in Ohio) are coming for our pre-BlissDom sleepover and I am super excited about it. Tomorrow the four of us will pack up and head to Nashville (or Nash Vegas) for BLISSDOM09, a blogging conference for women.

Amy and I attended the first BLISSDOM conference back in October together (with our friend Susan) and I am really looking forward to attending this one. Aside from getting to hang out with some of my favorite blogging friends; Fussy, Barbara, and co. have put together a really great agenda. One thing that I am really looking forward to is meeting Jen Lancaster.  Jen is the author of several of my favorite books, including Bitter is the New Black. Jen is the first author I ever “followed.” I don’t mean in the stalker – restraining order way (Hi Jen, if you are reading this I swear I am normal…) but followed meaning I’ve bought and read all her books.

While I am down in Nashville I’ll also be visiting my FAVORITE restaurant — the Pancake Pantry.  If you’ve ever been to Nashville, you know what I am talking about. They serve THE.BEST. PANCAKES. EVAH!  They are so good that Amy actually referred to them as “Christmas on a Plate” the last time we ate there.

If you’re in Cincinnati and interested in hearing about the confernece and the things I learn, I’ll be sharing my notes at the February Cincinnati Women Bloggers meeting.

Back in Business…..Cards

Last week I wrote about my upcoming trip to Nashville for BlissDom09, a blogging conference I am attending. In preparing for the trip I realized that my blog business cards were no good as they still have my old URL on them. NOTE: If you haven’t, please update your blogroll with www.mommybits.net . Thxs.k. Luv U.

Not having much design talent (ok… any design talent), I got nervous. I did a little research and then turned to Twitter to see what services my friends were using to design/print their business cards.  I got tons of great suggestions – Moo Cards (20% off first order WKPG87), Vista Print, 4×6.com and Discount Printing & Graphics. I started poking around the sites and soon realized that I had no idea what to do for my “design.”  It was totally overwhelming.

Then, a miracle happened.  My friend Heather (Domestic Extraordinaire), who’s going to BlissDom09 with me, offered to design my cards. (insert ’heavenly’ music from movies here….) I couldn’t believe it. What a SUPER NICE thing to do!  After just a few emails, Andrea had whipped up what I think is a truly awesome card:

Now I just need to get them printed – ASAP!

On The Road Again….

A few months ago you may recall me writing about a blogging conference I attended in Nashville, TN.  The event was BlissDom08 and was put on by FussyPants and a few other gals from Blissfully Domestic.  Turns out that the first event was such a success that they are putting on another – BIGGER – conference in February and I’M GOING!!

On Thursday I registered with Amy (AmyInOhio), Christina (A Mommy Story) and Heather (Domestic Extroardinaire) for the 2009 edition of BlissDom which takes place February 6 & 7 in Nashville.  Heather and Christina live in the Columbus, OH area so they’ll be stopping by Cincinnati to pick Amy and I up.  I am pretty excited to hang out with Christina and Heather as I met Christina at BlogHer08 but only for a second and I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Heather in person.  I think we will have a blast on the drive down.

In addition to the conference that weekend, it’s also the weekend before my 33 birthday. I am sure that will add to the festivities……

There are also a lot of great bloggers from the area heading down that I can’t wait to hang out with – Lu from Art Slam, my girl Debba from Girlfriendology, Jenny & Emilie from Mommin’ it Up, Marcy from Stretching a Buck, Andrea at Mommy Snacks and Erin at $5 Dinners. (If I missed you, please leave a comment saying that you’re coming too!)

As I mentioned earlier, this year the conference has grown to have two tracks – one for beginning bloggers and one for bloggers who’ve been at it for a longer time.  I’ll be sitting in on the advanced session and am particularly interested in the PR/Marketing session.  Since I am on both sides of the fence – being a blogger that works with PR people and then also being a PR person whose had the opportunity to work with bloggers successfully several times – I think it will be interesting to hear what others think.

You can learn more about BlissDom09, hereor on Facebook, here.

PS. If you are interested in going to BlissDom09 and need a room at the Hotel Preston, I am selling mine.  It’s a double-bed room at the $98 a night rate. Turns out one of my roomies also reserved a room so we have two!
