Another Birthday Passes

A few weeks ago the boys, my Mom and I spent an afternoon at Lazer Kraze. The afternoon made such an impression on my oldest, that we returned this past weekend for his BIG 9th Birthday!

I can’t believe another year has passed. Each one seems to go by faster than the last and I am just trying to soak up as much as I can. I know it’s cliche, but I really do wish I could stop time.  I have so much fun spending time with my boys, really the best time of my life.

Watch out, he's a sharp shooter!

Nine. My baby is Nine! (Don't tell him I called him my baby....)

SM was nice enough to invite his little brother ;-)

Why Does the Time Go So Quickly?

Happy 4th Birthday Tater! I can’t believe how fast it’s gone. You are my baby.  I love you so much. I don’t know that I will ever be able to find just the right words to let you know how much you’ve changed my life. How much better it is because you are here. You are one of the sweetest little boys I have ever met. Your smile lights up the room and is infectious to everyone who meets you. I am truly blessed to be your Mom.

Another Year Older….

This weekend we celebrated the B-Man’s third birthday. Just like every year, it was hard to come to grips with the fact that my “baby” was growing older.

We’d decided to keep it really simply this year, just doing something with immediate family and grand parents. We gave the B-Man a few options and when he picked lunch at Chuck E. Cheese. I was actually kind of excited (I know it sounds crazy but I was). Growing up our parties were always at home. For me, a trip to Chuck E. Cheese is a chance to channel my inner child and act like kid for awhile. The whole family had a blast playing games, raking in tickets, and getting our photos taken with Chuck E. Cheese himself.
Here we are playing Skee Ball. My parents totally killed it:

Later that evening, after dinner, we continued the party and did the cake, ice cream and presents. The best part was the B-Man’s reaction to us singing the Happy Birthday song. As soon as he realized that all of the fuss was for him, he kept asking us to sing the Birthday song over and over again to him.

Here’s the B-Man listening as we sing the Happy B-day song for the 3rd time…..

Here he is with his big brother SM opening a new Thomas the Tank Engine train.

If any of you have any secret potions or spells that will stop him from growing up, I’d appreciate them.

Birthday Spending. What’s Normal?

So this Saturday SM has been invited to attend a birthday party for one of his friends from school (he’s in Kindergarten). This is the first time that he’s been invited to a party where the parent of the child does not also happen to be one of my gal pals.

While I am excited about him going to the party, I am not sure about the gift etiquette. What is the appropriate spending amount for a 6 year old child who you don’t really know?
As I mentioned before, we’ve always gone to the parties of children we are friends with. For them, going a little overboard on the gift is the norm because their like family. Usually it’s children I’ve known since they were born.
I went ahead and took the boys shopping this evening to pick up the gift and ended up spending about $25, not including the gift bag, tissue paper, b-day card, etc.
SM really likes the gifts we picked out (and I do too) and I feel like the amount I spent is appropriate, but I just want to make sure the spending level/gift is on par with the norm.
Any advice/insight you guys have would be greatly appreciated. It’s really not about the money, I’d just love to know what you think is appropriate. Should I spend more? Less?
