I made it through the weekend parenting by myself- and we had a great time!
On Thursday the husband headed out west for his annual “guys weekend” in Las Vegas. On top of that, on Friday my MIL (who lives with us) headed up to her niece’s house for the weekend. This left me alone with the boys for the weekend and let me just say, we had a blast!!
We kicked things off on Thursday with a trip to the library. We picked up a ton of books and a couple of movies.
On Friday we invited SM’s best friend ‘A’ to spend the night. It was SM’s first slumber party and amazingly, it went off without a hitch. We did all the things you’d want to do if you were six and having a slumber party. We had pizza and chips, little ice cream cups for dessert and we watched “Alvin and the Chipmunks.” Not really knowing what I was getting myself into, I was surprised at how easy the sleepover was. All three boys got along really well and no arguments over toys (or attention) took place. Sm and ‘A’ were awesome at making The B-Man feel included. It’s something I’d definitely let SM do again.
On Saturday ‘A’s’ Mom picked him up around 10:30 a.m. While we were ready for her, the fun party (being sarcastic here) was that right as she walked in the house the dog decided to puke all over the kitchen floor. Nothing says “welcome” like massive amounts of dog vomit!
After “A” went home we took it pretty easy, playing and reading books. Around 3:00 p.m. we hooked up with my cousin (who just moved here from Alaska) and we headed out to take SM to play soccer. While SM’s been playing soccer for over a year now, I was nervous yesterday because he was starting with a new team and a new coach that had never seen him play. The team ended up having about 12 kids on it and I really liked the coach. He was very fair with the rotation and SM kicked butt on the field. I am constantly impressed with him and his soccer skills. He’s def. going to be an athlete like his Mom (you can’t really tell now) and his Dad.
Later that night my folks came over for dinner and a movie. After the kids went to bed my Dad headed home and my Mom and I hung out until about midnight watching The Soup and Chealsea Lately. Having my parents just down the street has been amazing. After 10 years of not living near each other, I feel blessed to be able to spend so much time with them.
Today we are taking it easy. We need to do some grocery shopping and I need to write my menu plan for the week, but outside of that we really are just waiting for Dad to come home tonight.
